The company was founded in 1924 by Scottish boxing
champion Bernard Brogan, selling paraffin from the back
of a horse and cart. He soon acquired his first lorry
and by the early 60's, the company had grown into one
of Scotland's largest tipper lorry and excavating equipment
fleets.
However, with the potential closure of the local British
Steel plant Ravenscraig, the Company diversified in
the early 1970's into fuel distribution and access plant
hire.
The company is still very much a family firm being run
by three of the grandsons of Bernard Brogan who are
proud of its history. In 1991 Campbell Brogan and Alan
Tait joined the company, followed by their cousin Alastair
Brogan in 1995.
When the steelworks finally closed in 1992 the Company's
emphasis shifted towards fuel distribution and Brogan
Fuels is now regarded as probably the largest independent
fuel distributor in Scotland and probably Scotland's largest kerosene heating oil supplier, operating 80 rigid tankers
accompanied by 12 tractor units and trailers, operating
out of 14 locations and employing a total
of 190 staff, out of the company's 250 staff.
An example of this successful growth is that in 1991
the Company's turnover was £12 million, increasing to
£300 million in 2008, and in this same time
period the customer database has grown from 4,000 to
over 80,000 ranging from domestic houses to construction
sites, farms and shipping lines.
Our approach is that every customer, whether large
or small, receives the same quality of service and value
for money. We are part of the local community and by
having local sales people, drivers and office staff,
we aim to supply all products within 24 hours, while
many of our competitors have centralised order points,
it is our local reliability and service that has formed
our competitive advantage within the industry.
Brogan Fuels have a 40 year relationship with Petroplus
(ex Phillips Petroleum) and are now their largest Authorised
Distributor in the UK.
Our most recent relationship is with Elf lubricants
for which we are now Scotland's main distributor, handling
a range of over 200 oils in bulk, barrels or 25 litre
drums.
Dieselink Services is a wholly owned subsidiary which
was set up in 1998 to supply fuel cards for diesel users
at commercial prices to over 2000 sites in the UK and
currently employs 45 staff.
With the dynamic team we have, Brogan Fuels is geared
up for the ever changing fuel environment.
